Product Description:

Lactulose (a synthetic disaccharide) is included in LEXA Syrup as an osmotic laxative and a way to reduce ammonia levels in the blood.Microorganisms produce lactic acid, acetic acid and other organic acids from lactulose fermentation in the colon; thus, creating a liquid environment to soften stool and encourage bowel transit time (increased volume).As well, as a result of acidifying the contents of the colon, ammonia absorption is diminished, making lactulose useful for people with hepatic encephalopathy (disease due to increased ammonia in the blood).

Administration Instructions:

Precautions:

Use caution with patients with lactose intolerance or galactosaemia, adjust dose to cause 2-3 soft bowel movement's daily.

Potential Adverse Reactions:

Bloating, flatulence, nausea, and diarrhea (particularly with excessive intake) may be experienced.

Storage Conditions:

Store at room temperature. Do not freeze. Avoid direct sunlight or heat.
